From ‘Fukou na Shounen no Ehon’
The 1st Rei, in all of her pint-sized glory, basically abuses and beats the shit out of Kaworu for the entire story, and isn’t above dressing him up like a girl so his fellow male students can use his face as a semen depository.
Considering the yandeRei-child this doujinshi, to think she was so easily defeated by Naoko Akagi is a thing of mystery…
Why didn’t 3rd impact explode when Kaworu grabbed Rei in the manga and vice-versa grabbing of Kaworu by Rei
Does that only apply if they touch their own body
Or was it invalid because they were just souls without their AdamLilith bodies?

Because, even if Kaworu got to Lilith, wouldn’t he fuck shit up even if it wasn’t Adam?
And what of EoE when COMBINATION happened of ReiWoru???
Please enlighten me?
This is based on the manga version where during the fight with Armisael (or the final angel before Kaworu,) Ayanami’s feelings flow into Kaworu, who is fighting beside her. That was sort of used as the device for manga!Kaworu to become curious about what these strong emotions meant, what it meant to have them yourself, and if he was capable of making others feel those kinds of emotions.
His stark contrasts between the utter disregard of feeling for Ayanamis death between poking at Shinji to use him as a means of trying to ‘get’ what it means to be human make the manga!Kaworu different than the anime!Kaworu, in which he discovers sympathy for humanity through befriending the obviously vulnerable Shinji. (In contrast to how invasive he was in the manga, which Shinji disliked, versus a more understanding and sympathetic Kaworu in the anime’s version.)
Despite the differences in his ‘means’ to bonding with the lilin, the result in both mediums of the story pan out identically. We are never 100% sure if Kaworu was truly ‘redeemed’ through his empathy for Shinji, or had intended all along to use Shinji to usher in the 3rd impact by heartlessly picking apart the emotions of a boy who had already lost so much. However, there is also the possibility that SEELE was using Kaworu in ways even he didn’t know about. (In the manga and the directors cuts.)
I think that the mystery of Kaworu’s true intentions and exactly how much he knew about NERV, SEELE and Lilith are just a few out of many reasons why I have a hard time understanding why some people find Kaworu’s character too ‘2-dimensional’ or ‘boring.’ For a character that was only in one episode of the anime, he has a complexity that is equal to his fellow pilots.
